Top Drive Saver Sub (also known as Top Drive Sub / Saver Sub / Kelly Sub), is a pin-by-pin sub that is made up to the top drive, connected with Lower IBOP and drill pipe, mainly used in the top drive system. Not only acting as crossover sub, but also protecting lower IBOP.
This saves on costly repair to the top drive by allowing multiple connections to be made up and broke out using the sub rather than the top drive itself. The structure of the sub is whole, which is produced with modified alloy steel, and after the special heat treatment process to achieve the desired hardness and strength and impact resistance.
Top drive saver sub can be divided into general top drive saver sub and low temperature top drive saver sub.
