API Spec 7K Pneumatic Spider


Pneumatic spiders are utilized to grip drill pipes, tubings and casings in oil well drilling and repairing. They are designed and manufactured according to API Spec 7K specification for drilling and well servicing equipment. With reasonable structure and safe, reliable and convenient operation, it is the ideal tool in the well servicing.


Pneumatic spiders are the left-middle-right three-slip body. With leveraged mechanism, lever or lift arm was driven by cylinder or manually, thus the left-right slip body is lofted to or drops to the bowl. Spiders realizes the function of lowering and clamping string. With compressed air (pneumatic spiders) and insurance hook(manual spiders), slip body is in the lifted status for the insurance role. Pull out the bolt and remove top guard (base of top guard), then the string enters the bowl, the operation may be started.

 

If the OD of the pipes to be held is 2 3/8″, 2 1/2″, 2 7/8″, 3″, different size of inserts could commonly use the same slip body. Another set of slip body should be used for holding pipe OD  3 1/2″. another set of slip body should be used for holding 4’’ and 4 1/2’’ OD pipes. Same slip body should be used for holding 4 3/4’’ and 5’’ OD pipes. Different pipe sizes can be held through changing the inserts and matching the different slip body.

 

Oil stain, mud and/or other foreign matters on the inserts of the slip body and back Cone’s surface and insert bowl’s surface should be washed up clean after every lift up and lowering operation and the internal and external cone surface must be coated with lubrication grease. And the teeth condition of the inserts should be checked to see whether there is any crack, broken teeth or any other abnormal wear and tear. If any such things happened, the complete set of the inserts should be replaced. Be sure do not mix-using the old and new inserts at the same time to avoid the sliding and accident.
